All grow"ed" up

My friend Katie and I came across this poem when our babies were actually "babies" and she filed it away and had it posted on her blog. It hit me even harder now that the kids are older. Wow, time does go so fast. Thought some of you would enjoy reading this. Hope it doesn't make you cry!! Thanks Katie!!

You were six months old and full of fun,
With a blink of an eye, you suddenly were 1..
There were many things we were going to do,
But I turned my head and you turned two...
At two, you were very dependent on me,
But independence took over when you were three...
Your third birthday, another year I tried to ignore,
But when I lit the candles there weren't 3, but four...
Four was the year that you really thrived,
Why, look at you now, you're already five...
Now you are ready for books and rules,
This is the year that you go to school...
The big day came; you were anxious to go,
We walked to the bus, going oh so slow...
As you climbed aboard and waved goodbye,
I felt a lump in my throat and a tears stung my eyes...
Time goes so fast, its hard to believe,
That yesterday you were home here with me...
And tomorrow when the bus brings you home & you jump to the ground
You'll be wearing your cap and graduation gown...
So I'm holding on to these moments as hard as I can,
Because the next time I look,
I'll be seeing a man!

How true it is, that life flies by, in the blink of an eye.

Our children grow, right before our eyes, and before we know it, it will be their time to fly.

We can only hope, as parents, that we have prepared them for this earth.

That we've brought them up with morals and integrity, and a sense of self worth.

We love our children dearly, and wish to hold their hand their whole life through.

But the day will come, we must release them, to become their own people too.

As hard as it is to do, like a bird falling from the nest.

Our children will have struggles, and usually it's for the best.

They say what doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger.

But can't we hold our children, just a little while longer?

So cherish the days with our children, and the never ending questions they ask, which usually is "Why?"

For the day will come, that they're on their own, and you give them a kiss, "Goodbye".
